Penguin (Google Algorithm)

Penguin is an update to Google’s algorithm, introduced in 2012 to combat webspam and manipulative search engine optimization techniques, particularly those involving link building and the construction of obviously unnatural backlink profiles.

Specifically, Penguin affected, by reducing their ranking in search results, sites that used techniques such as spam link building or the use of unnatural or irrelevant links, often with over-optimized anchor text.
