Crawling

In SEO, crawling is the process by which search engines such as Google discover new content or updates on existing web pages. This is done by software called a crawler or spider, which “scans” the web by following links between pages.

During the process, the crawler visits web pages, reads the information present and records it in the search engine’s database, called an index. This process is critical for SEO, as it determines which pages will then be shown in search results. To facilitate crawling, websites should have a clear structure, easily accessible content, and working links.
